Qualified Art Psychotherapist Irene Malvezi is based at the Brentwood Arts Therapy Centre, where she provides private Art Therapy sessions for individuals and groups.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of expression and communication to address emotional issues, which may be confusing and distressing. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable. Clients do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art.
Clients may have a wide range of difficulties, disabilities or diagnoses. These include emotional, behavioural or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, life-limiting conditions, neurological conditions and physical illnesses. The goal is to enable clients to build on their own strengths as they develop self-awareness and self-compassion.
Fees: There are discounts for clients on reduced income, which can be discussed at the initial assessment meeting.

At Create Yourself Calm we provide open access, innovative and inclusive workshops combining art and creativity with wellbeing, mindfulness and self-care tips. Our workshops are suitable for anyone from beginners to more experienced creatives.
We provide participants with a starting point to get creative, based on a simple technique like painting, cutting, collaging, printing or doodling etc. We also practice simple mindfulness exercises linked to the creative activity enabling participants to relax and enjoy the process. We encourage discussion about how creativity and mindfulness can help participants to better manage their own stress and reflect upon and improve their self-care.
We offer workshops to the general public and also work with local community groups and organisations such as the WI, local hospice support groups and local charities to provide workshops to specifically support their members.
Each session has a different theme which can be tailored to the needs of the group we are working with. Workshops run for up to 2.5 hours where we will intersperse the time with mindfulness, discussion and creative activities at a relaxed pace.
The workshops bring communities together to undertake an art activity that they may not otherwise take part in, with the added benefit of learning mindfulness tools to help them manage stress and anxiety.
