Brave Parents

All ages of parent carers 18 plus

Brave Parents provides self care opportunities to parents who have children with complex medical needs*.

We recognise that many of these parents forget to care for themselves. They work so hard to keep their child well that their own needs always come second.

However, over time this can have an affect on the mental health of the caregivers and whole family unit.

We create opportunities for Parent Carers to have some well needed ‘you’ time to support their mental health and well-being.

From pamper ‘… for you’ and Hospital Boxes to in person events and local meets, we hope to encourage self care and highlight that it is essential, especially through hard times.

*’Complex medical needs’ refers to children who have been diagnosed by a medical professional, with an illness, disability or sensory impairment (sight and/or hearing impairment) that requires substantial daily support from a Parent Carer.

Caring Together Project: Family carer support.

One of our key initiatives is the Caring Together Project, which supports family carers by providing opportunities to connect with others in similar caregiving situations. This project offers:

Peer Support Groups: These sessions allow family carers to share experiences, gain emotional support, and build friendships with others who understand the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.

Caring Together Allotment: A space where carers and their loved ones can come together to relax, garden, and enjoy nature. This project helps build a sense of community and offers a therapeutic environment away from daily caregiving responsibilities.

Monthly Sessions on Various Topics: We host face-to-face meetings covering a range of topics, including managing stress, accessing resources, and practical tips for caregiving. These sessions provide valuable information and a chance for carers to ask questions and seek advice.

Community Engagement: Through the Caring Together project, we aim to reduce isolation, provide respite, and create a supportive network for carers, ensuring they feel valued and understood.
